| EM datalogger "Wombat" in 90ft of water off Scripps pier |
Scripps has been a pioneer in marine electromagnetic methods and
instrumentation and is a world leader in this field. Electrical
Methods research at IGPP has involved development of seafloor instrumentation,
data inversion techniques, and laboratory studies of rock properties.
Recent marine experiments have focused on the oceanic spreading
centers where EM measurements can help constrain details of the
magma chamber source. The EM reserach group collaborates with several
other research groups and external facilities to develop this new
technique.
