IGPP research into absolute gravity meters has led to both land and seafloor based instruments. Analyses of satellite gravity data have led to new images of
seafloor topography and constraints on the tectonics of Earth and other planets.
ROVDOG (Remotely Operated Vehicle deployable Deep Ocean Gravimeter), sitting on the ocean floor on the mid-Atlantic Ridge, during Nov. 2000. Foreground
and robotic arm is of the submersible ALVIN, which was used to deploy the instrument.
