2021 IGPP Virtual Seminar Series: Hilary Martens

IGPP is pleased to invite you to join its Winter 2021 Virtual Seminar Series presentation featuring Hilary Martens from University of Montana. Dr. Martens's talk, "Deformation of the Earth by the Oceans, Atmosphere, and Continental Water" will be available via Zoom on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, starting at 12:00pm.  The seminar will be hosted on Zoom link here (password = deform).

Date: Tuesday, January 12, 2021
Time: 12:00 pm, Pacific Time

Note: This meeting will be recorded. Please make sure that you are comfortable with this before registering.

Abstract: Fluctuations in surface pressure associated with circulations of Earth's fluid envelopes cause the shape of the solid Earth to distort on timescales ranging from sub-daily to inter-annual. The manner of distortion can shed light on the material properties of the solid Earth as well as on the distribution of the load. This presentation will explore state-of-the-art methods for measuring and modeling Earth deformation caused by the redistribution of surface fluids. Applications range from probing the structure of Earth's interior to advancing understanding of Earth's water cycle.
